Giving Thanks![]() With Thanksgiving around the corner, it’s a great time to stop and express gratitude for all we have around us. For me, I’m always grateful for the basics - having food and a safe and warm place to call home, as well as the health of my family and friends. I’m also very grateful for this community: to all the staff and teachers for keeping the school running, teaching my kids so much, and of course putting on another awesome Harvest Fest! I'd also like to say thank you to all the parents of this community, especially all the board members who volunteer their time to show up and create programs for all of us to enjoy, despite whatever crazy things are happening in their personal lives. And of course, a BIG thank you to all the families that have contributed to the SEED campaign! We know that it’s been a tough year with record high inflation and economic uncertainty, so we definitely appreciate anything that families were able to give! The PA board is as invigorated as ever to support our community. With the parent survey and SEED campaign now complete (see below for results), we’re focusing our efforts on the most popular programs. And if you missed the survey or ever have any suggestions for the board, feel free to let any board member know or contact us at any time. We love hearing new ideas or feedback for improvement. Wishing everyone a safe and happy season of thanks! With gratitude, Jessica Lin President, MCH Parent Association Reminder! Parent Association Annual Meeting You (yes, you!) are a member of the MCH Parent Association and you are welcome and encouraged to join us for our annual meeting. This short get together will provide members of the Parent Association an opportunity to review the previous year’s financial report and learn about the current year’s budget and board priorities. The meeting is scheduled for Monday, November 14th, from 7:30 PM to 7:45 PM. Contact us for Zoom details. We hope you can join us! 2022 SEED Fundraiser Results Thank you to all who donated to the 2022 SEED fundraising campaign. Together, we raised $24,825! While we did not meet our goal, every gift helps us continue our mission of supporting the MCH community. And even though the campaign is over, it’s never too late to donate! We know a lot of companies run giving campaigns in November and December, so please consider the PA if this is available to you. Your gift helps fund special events, extracurricular activities, professional development of our teachers and staff, classroom enrichment materials, and tuition assistance. Did you decide not to give this year? We’d love to know why! We were further off our goal mark than we expected, so we’d love your anonymous feedback via this survey so that we may improve our communication in future campaigns. 2022 Parent Survey Results Many thanks to everyone who completed this year's Parent Survey! We received great feedback, ideas, and even heard from folks looking to get involved with the Parent Association. We have already begun putting this data to work, guiding the direction of both our programming and spending this academic year. Here's a brief summary of the results. The MCH community:
Harvest Fest Wrap-Up Thank you to everyone who stopped by to say hello at our Harvest Fest pumpkin patch! Still have uncarved pumpkins at home? Here are some warming recipes for these breezy, cool Autumn Days: Roasted Pumpkin Seeds (for children over 3 years old) and Pumpkin Soup (for the whole family). Q: What are some of the events the PA hosts and where can I find a calendar of events or stay aware? Great news! We now have a live calendar so that you can check out our upcoming events in real time. We will update this calendar as new events come to fruition, so be sure to check back often. The PA hosts events such as game nights, walking/hiking meetups, book club, casual coffee gatherings and community learning for caregivers. Join us on Zoom Tuesday, November 8th from 1:00--2:00pm to discuss our first book of the school year: Beautiful Country by Qian Julie Wang. “Qian Julie Wang’s memoir about her life growing up as an undocumented child in New York in the 1990s is humbling, eye-opening, and beautifully rendered. Experiencing the confusion, hardships, and racism through the eyes of a child is especially heart-breaking. Beautiful Country (which translates to Mei Guo, America in Chinese) perfectly captures the enduring hope and courage of an immigrant’s struggle to obtain the very basic needs every human deserves.” – ARC Review We are a very casual crowd and, while reading the book is encouraged, it is also optional. Perhaps check out this 8 minute chat with the author or this Today Show interview and join us for the conversation. Contact us for Zoom login details. We hope to see you there! Wanna Lend a Hand?

Thank you for your willingness and interest! ![]() Kicking off the School Year at Montessori Children's House! The MCH Parent Association would like to welcome you to the 2022-2023 school year! As a parent of an MCH student, you are automatically a member of the Parent Association. With your support and involvement, we hope to make this an awesome school year for our community! The Parent Association is a non-profit organization that hosts staff appreciation week, holds community enrichment events, and helps fund scholarships for our students. These programs are all possible through the generous gifts we have received through our SEED campaign, a fundraising campaign you will see more information on this fall. To find out more about board sponsored events or to learn more about the board members, visit the Parent Association website. I'm Jessica Lin, the newly elected president of the Parent Association Board. I’ve been a parent at the school since 2018 and I currently have one child in the toddler program and another in the early childhood program. These past couple of years have been tough and isolating, and despite all that is happening in the world, it is my hope that the MCH community is one where you can find joy, friendship, and inclusion, and where we share the common goal of helping our children thrive. This year, we have 10 members on the board working to help you, our parent community, feel supported and integrated with the school. We are planning lots of activities to build community between parents, students, staff, and teachers, and appreciate your participation and suggestions. Members of the board are parents of students in different classrooms, so feel free to reach out to any member of the board if you have questions about being a parent of a MCH student, or about the parent association. We value your input in our community and will be reaching out to you throughout the year via this newsletter, word of mouth, and the occasional email to ask for feedback and volunteers to assist at various events. Please feel free to reach out to us if you have any questions. I look forward to meeting you. Welcome again to the MCH community! Sincerely, Jessica Lin President, MCH Parent Association ![]() We Want to Hear From You! Throughout the year, the Parent Association's Community Development Committee brings you opportunities to gather and get to know one another informally. Some of our most popular offerings have been hikes and walks, the book/podcast circle, parent education speakers, and casual meetups. This year we are thrilled to bring back our end of year camping event, to be held in June. Our committee wants to tailor our offerings based on your interest. Please take a moment to complete this year’s (very brief) Parent Survey to let us know what to offer. We appreciate your feedback! Come to meet some committee members and other parents. Rain or shine. We look forward to meeting you! ![]() SEED Campaign Kick Off The annual SEED campaign will kick off on October 17th this year! The money that is raised over two weeks funds all our Sponsorship, Extracurricular, Enrichment, and Development (SEED) activities during the year. For example, thanks to your generous donations in 2021, we were able to fund a four-week Positive Discipline course on practices to raise caring, collaborative, and capable kids. As we plan for PA activities this school year, please make sure to take the Parents Survey and tell us how you would like to see the PA spend the funds this year. In addition, if you have been hesitant to give in years past, feel free to contact us at fundraising@mch-pa.org with any feedback. Thank you for your support. We look forward to getting together throughout the year! ![]() Smooth(er) Transitions As the school year gets underway, it is easy to drift into to-dos and a sense of urgency and busyness. Our children sense this shift as they, too, are also adjusting to a new routines, people, input, and excitement. Sometimes this results in a strained sense of connection with one another. Fortunately, when we set aside just a few moments each day to recenter and prioritize connecting with our children – we can calm and nourish everyone involved. The energy between caregiver and child is shared! Simple strategies such as intentional breath work, asking our children what they would like to play (and following their lead) for 10 minutes, or building reuniting rituals after school, pave the way for staying focused on what really matters – connected relationships. CLICK HERE for some quick, playful ideas for inviting peace into the minds of parents and children alike as we welcome new adventures! Have a Wonderful Summer! ![]() I cannot believe that the end of the school year is here. I'm so grateful to have been president of such an amazing group of board members this year. Sadly, I will not be returning for the 2022-2023 school year, but having met the new slate of officers, I am confident the Parent Association will be in good hands. See below for a list of the MCH parents who will be joining the PA board next year. As I wrap up my duties, I would especially like to thank Jeremy Syme for his unending devotion to making sure this board continues on in a way that is meaningful to the school and community. I would like to extend a special thank you to each board member as they have made this year worth it in every way possible. I also again would like to thank our teachers, staff members and community for doing everything we can to continue to grow and change through these often trying times. I can not wait to see what the officers for next year have to offer. Welcome to each and every one of you and I hope you all have a wonderful summer. Thank you again for an amazing year! Yours in service and gratitude, Susan Smith President, MCH Parent Association ![]() Congratulations to the Newest Members of the PA Board of Directors! Please reach out to Julie at julie@mch-pa.org to share your interests and ideas for growing our parent community. And as summer lures us outdoors, we offer this nourishing quote from Maria Montessori: “Let the children be free; encourage them; let them run outside when it is raining; let them remove their shoes when they find a puddle of water; and when the grass of the meadows is wet with dew, let them run on it and trample it with their bare feet; let them rest peacefully when a tree invites them to sleep beneath its shade; let them shout and laugh when the sun wakes them in the morning.” ![]() Don't Forget About Our End of Year Picnic Meet-up! It's bittersweet to realize the end of another school year is upon us. While the pandemic is still preventing us from having a formal gathering, we do want to mark the end of the year as a community. Please plan to join us at Marymoor Park at noon on June 25. Pack a picnic lunch, bring a blanket, and join other MCH families to celebrate the end of the year. There will be no organized activities. We will meet near the Marymoor Playground next to Parking Lot K. Wrapping Up Another Year ![]() Happy May everyone! I cannot believe that it's coming up to the end of the school year soon. Her spirited determination to find joy and hope in even the most difficult circumstances imaginable will “break your heart and then put it back together again” (Jenna Bush Hager on The Today Show) even as Adunni shows us how one courageous young girl can inspire us all to reach for our dreams…and maybe even change the world. We will be delivering additional parent education series later this year.
